• Redditors had the exact same attitude towards paid @NotionHQ templates. “Who would ever pay for a template? Just build it yourself.” I decided to ignore them. Results:
  • $1.8 million in template sales
  • 20,000+ happy customers
  • 12 people have jobs I’m sharing this because I’m naturally sensitive to this type of criticism. I spent nearly 10 years being too scared to sell anything for a fair price because I feared comments like this. My YouTube channel had AdSense completely turned off until I had well over 100,000 subscribers because I was scared people would hate the ads and blame me. I had to force myself to adopt a more resilient mindset, and to realize that there will always be people who:
  • Are not my product’s target audience
  • Loudly post online acting as if they represent everyone There will always be people who are willing to spend 20 hours building from scratch rather than spending $100 – and they act as if everyone else is like them. But for every person like this, there are 10 who can’t be bothered to go the DIY route. They’ll happily pay for your expertise, your time, your blood, sweat, and tears poured into a polished product that solves their problem quickly and easily. Those people aren’t snarkily posting on Reddit. Many are just reading or watching, waiting for you to create the thing that will solve their problems. Serve those people; ignore everyone else.
